Open Floor Movement Meditation Practice

Please join Creative Agency and Tamara Borovica, Creative Agency’s Artist Fellow 2019, for a series of movement classes.

Everyone is welcome – bodies of all shapes, sizes, ages, abilities, preferences, moods are especially invited to come and move with us. Come and breathe, pause, shake, pulse, swirl, bounce, roll, fly, mess, glide and weave with us.

Open Floor is a lively movement meditation practice and a creative dance inquiry. In Open Floor we dance with attention on the here and now, our bodies, our breath, our movements, and learn from everything we encounter on the dance floor- other dancers, music, words, affective atmospheres, resistance, feelings, ideas, creative encounters. At the core of Open Floor philosophy is the understanding that we are always in a relationship. Relationship is not something that we do, it is something that we are. It is the stuff we are made of – infinite relations and connections between matter, fluids, energies, tissues, thoughts, feelings, perceptions and much much more. There are infinite ways to be in a relationship – with yourself, with others, with nature, with our loneliness or belonging, with community, even with spirit. Open Floor aims to support dancers in discovering fresh ways for moving in (and out of) various relationships - from habit to choice and creative possibility. This is a creative, sweaty and fun dance practice.

Dr. Tamara Borovica’s Open Floor dance classes combine her movement teaching skills with her academic knowledge and years of experience in leading community, youth and peace programs in the Balkans. Her focus is on creating affective atmospheres that support dancers in exploring creative possibility. In her Open Floor classes, Tamara explores how dance can take us into new terrains of becoming and perhaps lead toward increasing our capacities for experiencing more of life. Tamara’s work is at the intersection between philosophy, arts, meditation, social sciences and compassionate action in the everyday. She is curious about movement, embodiment, being, what makes people hopeful and how that something (dance perhaps) can make our everyday easier or even more joyful.
